I've used various setting, using Distort Selection.
To show the different degrees, which can be achieved.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread. First time poster, have not been lurking for long.

A week ago wanted to make a slideshow for a friends family in blender and needed to put “deckle edge borders” around the photos ( approx 80 photos )….Post #3 by Wallace showed me the way. Worked like a charm. I put the deckle edges on the outside of the images they looked perfect with shadows and animation in blender.

This is what I did

Final product https://files.catbox.moe/lz07ni.png
Workflow video https://files.catbox.moe/vfuxbl.mp4

So it worked out thank you nxio27,Wallace, rich2005, Blighty and others

Now here is the problem…. Someone else in my family saw the slideshow and wants one; 200+ images :scared_smilie:

Now the animation + composition in blender cannot be automated for the most part. But adding the deckle edge can be in gimp…. Can someone teach me how to script this workflow in gimp?

I tried to do it with imagemagik which is easier to script but the outcome was not satisfactory
https://www.fmwconcepts.com/imagemagick ... /index.php
https://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/thumbnails/

Tried to automate it in BIMP but was unable to a) expand canvas b) distort the edge + color in the border in the distorted border area ( please see workflow video for explanation )

Someone has done it for PSP so am confident Gimp can swing it too https://creationcassel.com/store/index. ... ucts_id=35

@@rich2005 I like where you're going with this. I'm piggy-backing off your idea and using an image I found online of an actual vintage photo with a deckle edge (someone wrote what appears to be a master's thesis on the history and usage of the deckle edge in photography). I'm working on my own deckle brush, and I'll post it as soon as it's finished.

@Wallace I've been trying your method, and on my GIMP (2.10.8) it seems to give the deckle edge to only two adjacent sides (top and left). The right and bottom sides seem to be untouched. And it seems more like pieces bitten out (narrow and deep, rather than shallow and undulating). I'm not sure whether I'm doing something wrong, or once again, there's a difference between GIMP versions.
I've used portable Gimp 2.10.10 and an installed Gimp 2.8.18 and can not recreate the kid of issue you're having.
Not sure why your selection is only being distorted on 2 sides.
The distortion is more of a torn look than a symmetrical one.

Oh, Wallace, I am an idiot. makes sense to me now. I got now! Thank you.
No not an idiot.
You must have been seeing something, that others were not.
I'm wondering what that was.
If you look at your images just right, they appear that the white is a frame OVER the cream color, and that it's the white that was deckled.

Yes, Wallace. the "torn" edge appears on the outside of the border as on post #2, and on Post#12.

Here are 4 more patterns.

They are in xcf format. Either export as a gbr; or copy the pattern and use as a clipboard brush. Paths are included so that they can better scaled if required.

Set the brush spacing to 100%. For straight line first Click; then Shift-Ctrl-Click.

Wallace, I am missing something. How did you get the torn edging on the outside of the border, not the inside. Can you make it on the inside and outside of the border?
Do you mean like this Pat625?
