Re: Can't reset default colors on start

Desperation measures called for ;) go into your Gimp profile and delete the file contextrc, that is the equivalent of reseting the tool options. http://i.imgur.com/BGIdZH8.jpg Have you considered getting Gimp set up the way you want it, then maybe saving the Gimp profile to a memory stick, that way ...

Re: Can't reset default colors on start

Strange, that should have worked.

What you can try is, set the FG / BG the way you want ( and any other tools, while you are there )

Click on 'Save tool Options Now' (if Save tool options on exit is unticked Gimp will start as set up each time.)

Re: Flower_brushes

Nice collection, there was a report on uk tv that many young people are unable to recognise common wild flowers.

Hope you do not mind, resized down to 200x200 but assembled into a Gimp image hose a .gih brush.

Re: MathMap

@RJKD You might have seen this at GimpChat but best avoid the MathMap installer, it was made for Gimp 2.6 and tries to install there, whatever destination you specify. Easy enough to install manually. Get the files that the installer contains from http://www.mediafire.com/file/7q9bd15vlrgi11r/mathma...

Re: Tin Tran's Create an Apple Script

I can get that working in linux (kubuntu 16.04) and Gimp 2.8.20 with a struggle.

Seems the layerfx for Gimp 2.8 which creates layer groups is the problem.

Try the previous python version of layerfx http://gimpscripts.com/download/utilities/layerfx.py

remember to remove/disable the 2.8 version.

Re: Photoshop brushes

Was that the 32 bit plugin? - It is old and that error message will come from an updated and recent Gimp. If you have a 64 bit system then Rod's version might work. Anyway, I added that for interest, useful if you have to trawl through lots of abr brushes looking for a particular one. If you need to...

Re: Photoshop brushes

A little academic these days but you can open a PS brush set (.abr) as a graphics file (File -> Open) using a old plug-in abr-brush-loader . Why would you want to do this? Usual reason, export a single brush (a layer) as a native Gimp .gbr brush, maybe after modifying it a little. Where can you get ...

Re: Trying to recreate this black and white effect.

Using standard gimp, try the photocopy filter. This one http://i.imgur.com/Y7MBG8h.jpg Desaturate, layer on top (overlay mode) in a pattern giving a half-tone rather than dither, feed the result to the photocopy filter. FWIW, to see how they are built up: the 2 xcf files zipped https://my.pcloud.com...

Re: Trying to recreate this black and white effect.

Interesting effect, my stab at it.

The gmic filter Black & White -> Charcoal incorporates a good bit of dithering.

With suitable values then bump map the result against the colour image. Paint the hightlights out of the nails first.

Re: How to change brush spacing in GIMP?

I use a portable linux Gimp 2.9.5 derived from an unbuntu ppa: That lets me have both Gimp 2.8.20 (updated it a couple of hours ago) and Gimp 2.9.5 co-exist.

Not clever like you guys, but if it helps this is from Gimp 2.9.5 looks like there is a set-brush-spacing
