Absolute beginners (Tips)

When i first stared with Gimp, i knew how to turn a machine on, navigate the internet and use email, it was a steep learning curve and everyday day i find something new to learn. So i thought i would start this thread in case anyone else may learn something. It would be great if others have any little Gimp tips or tricks they could post.
Here i try to describe the benefits of using Alt+Tab to toggle between windows when following tutorials.

One more tip. When having many layers in your work and you need to see only a layer. You can close all of the eyes less the layer needed by pressing Shift and the layer eye at once. The same action to get to recover the whole open eyes. :)

A good idea to keep all the tips in one thread RJKD, one that for me makes things a little easier is the small icon at the extreme top right in the image below, when clicked the image is enlarged to fill the screen
