Animate Booming Speakers

Post#1 by animicule » 25 Aug 2017, 13:48

For this tutorial, I have cropped just an
area around one of the main speakers,
(tweeters do not visibly move while operating).

Open your speaker image in gimp

Duplicate the image 5 times so that you have
6 total layers.

You will scale this selection on only the
even numbered copies

From the bottom, make the 2nd layer the
active layer, and the only visible layer

Then type se and your ellipse selection
tool will be active when you click the mouse
on the speaker, make a selection around
the speaker cone and include a small amount
of the speaker surround.

To save the selection, choose from menu
Select > To Path (or with the shortcut
keys <alt>S then P)
You only need to save your selection once.

Now do a <shift>T and your scale tool
will be active. Be sure the chain link icon
to keep the width and height propotionate is not
'broken' and increase the width or height slightly,
then press enter

The scale will give you a floating selection.
Verify that the layer you scaled (which now
show have a transparent area where the speaker
cone was) is the only visible (with the eye icon
next to it) layer. Then press the Anchor icon.

Now move on to the next even numbered layer
and repeat.

If you lose your selection, click the Paths tab,
right click your path and choose
Path to Selection and the same path will be
active again.. (or just do a <shift>T and
make a new selection).

When you are done with scaling the 3
even numbered layers:
File > Export As
choose your locate, type your filename,
choose .gif as the file type and mouseclick
on the Export button 2x and the gif menu
will appear.

Change the settings to those in the image and
save your image.

Now you can view your results in your internet
browser.

There are a couple examples at the end.
