Best method of smoothing

Post#1 by RJKD » 15 Nov 2016, 12:06

I have found a few suggested ways of smoothing edges following background removal ( I can't re-find the particular one I was looking for regarding Antialiased Edges ), in this case I'm working on the flower attached, what would be the best way?

I don't know about other images, it might be harder.
I don't even know where the background removal tool is located (if you know let me know).
But for your image, i found it was quite easy to remove background since the flower is very bright compared to the rest of background.
I just duplicated the layer, then with one layer, I used Colors->Threshold (110, 255).
Then with the fuzzy select tool click on the flower so it would only select the flower.
Then made the threshold layer invisible, click on original layer.
Select->Feather (2 pixels).
Inverted selection.
And clear/cut.
And I am left with just the flower.
