Re: Can't reset default colors on start

Oh well, tried every which way, I'm not proficient enough to be able to find a needle in a haystack in my old user profile. So, I'm living with it, on the scale of things, it's probably the least of my problems. Thankyou to those who suggested options, even Conbagui, who inadvertently reminded me I'm due for an eyesight test.

Just out of interest :) If you bring up the Change Foreground Colour dialogue, what colour is showing as Current? example:

Might give someone a clue for a fix.

That is a nice *not black* ;)

What happens if you set all the sliders to the left, that is zero them, to give black

Ok that, which should give black as the foreground colour.

Then do your, Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options -> Save Tool Options Now

OK that, then restart Gimp - any difference?

If you click on the little icon to the bottom left of the colors, does it reset to black?
The one kitty corner from the 2 arrows on the small curve(at the top right corner) to flip the foreground and background colors.

@RJKD

That is really weird. I had the feeling that you were not 'ok'-ing the dialogues to 'back-out' of them. Obviously I was wrong.

Back to how it works (which we tried before). The file contextrc contains the FG colour providing it is not black

This for example is your brown colour.

Code: Select all

# GIMP user context

(tool "gimp-paintbrush-tool")
(paint-info "gimp-paintbrush")
(foreground (color-rgb 0.254902 0.223529 0.160784))
(brush "1. Pixel")
(dynamics "Pressure Opacity")
(pattern "Pine")
(gradient "FG to BG (RGB)")
(palette "Default")
(font "Sans")

# end of user context
This one is a black (RGB 0,0,0) foreground colour code, not needed.

Code: Select all

# GIMP user context

(tool "gimp-paintbrush-tool")
(paint-info "gimp-paintbrush")
(brush "1. Pixel")
(dynamics "Pressure Opacity")
(pattern "Pine")
(gradient "FG to BG (RGB)")
(palette "Default")
(font "Sans")

# end of user context
Have a look at that file in your Gimp profile. If you have a decent file editor (not wordpad which will break it) try deleting the line

Code: Select all

(foreground (color-rgb 0.254902 0.223529 0.160784))
Otherwise try replacing the whole file.
Zipped and attached the black one. Can you unzip and replace the file you have in your gimp profile.
