Color of 3D text

I am using Graechan's modification of http://registry.gimp.org/node/24671 (3D text scm). Is it possible to choose a different color, I've run both scripts several times and can only get the outcome attached?
EDIT - It would be fantasic to be able to use gradients -hint, hint - coder of the year :golden_wilber:

Please give this new script a try
Extrude Active Layer with Active Path Script for GIMP
It'll use active gradient to colorify the copies as it extrudes.

@RJKD you need to start out by creating a gradient text image. First type your text, then right click your text layer, select "alpha to selection". Create a new layer, then use your gradient tool to create colored text (Ctrl [cmd on mac] key + left click and swipe like you normally would to create a gradient). Your new layer should now be a gradient version of your original text. With your gradient layer selected you can now use the script you listed. I downloaded a copy of it, and went through the steps....here's the result:
