A tutorial for colouring black & white photographs. Written after a query by Sallyanne on GC.
I hope it will help her and others.
david.

edit: updated the file.
edit: minor change to explain how feathering produces smooth transition.

David, thank you so much for your tutorial. I saw Sallyanne's post and was amazed at your work. I am sure that I will use this often as I have many old photos that have faded or developed a reddish color and need repaired. Thank you again!

RJKD & Pat625,
Glad you think this is useful.
On my computer I have corrected a couple of "typos" and added a note about adjustments within selections. I will wait a few days to see if anyone has any suggestions to improve the tutorial and then upload an updated version.
david.

I have updated the file at the start of this thread - a few small additions, tidying-up and correcting my typos!

To try and prove to myself that the tutorial is OK, I have done another image. To produce the first result - about one hour. For the second, with all the channels and layers available - about five miutes!

I couldn't resist one more try!
The photo of this elegant young lady I downloaded when I was looking for a picture for the tutorial.
This one was a challenge, because of the fine detail and the low resolution of the original. I also removed some details which I thought distracted from the face.
