Thank you RJKD for the tutorial, (showing his secrets to "Ball of Flags"). :gimp_clap:
File resources: found in post #1 (in the .zip).
Below is the text version of the tutorial (with steps added so it's easy to ask questions refering to which step) (for crawlers to easily access the content as I am NOT sure if crawlers can/will crawl through zipped. pdf files).

Flag-ball tutorial (Irun Win7 Gimp 2.8)
1. Open Flags_starter xcf (supplied in zip with tutorial)
2. Duplicate layer (turn off eye of starter layer)
3. Scale duplicate layer by 50% vertically

6. Run filter FX-Foundry – Photo – Enhancement – Vivid Saturation 10, OR use filter Enhance - unsharp mask
7. Duplicate ‘ball’ layer (you may wish to play with final image)
8. Double canvas size
9. Duplicate base (starter) layer x3 and align on canvass
10. Move ball layer into centre of canvass

RJKD: Thank you so much for writing the tutorial using your flags! Very nicely written and included screen shots. Our new to Gimp should be able to follow. I did one a long time ago with some pictures that were larger and it seemed easier in some ways. Still had to play around with it to find the optimum size and number of the pictures. Thanks again. Good Job!!!

Thank you so much for putting this together Pat. I'm still learning how to create documents. I used Word and then converted to PDF. I would like to learn how you put your tutorial together for this site, (I don't understand the internet so well) it really is very well presented.

doing it again I would change a few things, namely making the outer ring different flags instead of the "double map", but that was a great tutorial!
