This is a small tool for using the eraser brush to remove sections of custom font characters. It may appear deceptively simple but I think it is one of those tools that has many, many uses. Although its name suggests that it should only be applied to the edges of characters, that can be slightly misleading.
The tool has only three options and works with the currently selected brush. The spacing obviously refers to the space between brush/eraser strokes. Set this to zero and it will use the currently selected brush spacing as in the toolbox. Basically the plug-in moves the brush along a path created from the shape of the character erasing areas of the character as it goes along. As I said very simple stuff.
The third, offset, option moves the brush outwards from the centre of this path (positive values) or inwards towards the centre of the character (negative values).
Some examples with a diamond shaped solid brush:
Like most thing done with the paintbrush tool, the use of dynamics can add something extra to the effects that you can achieve.
These examples using a triangle brush apply a random amount of rotation to each stroke of the eraser.
The effect of the brush can also be further modified by using animated brushes to enhance the randomness of the applied brush strokes.
The next examples use an animated brush, with random angle dynamics applied, from the included folder called edge_eraser to try and emulate a furry style of edging.
And in a similar vein with another animated brush called hairy:
Use a wide font to experiement with. It depends on the nature of the final custom font when to apply this plug-in. Some look better before applying a final texture or decorative face but others look better when this filter is applied as the final step in the wirkflow.
