Custom Splashes for Gimp

Post#1 by Pat625 » 15 Oct 2016, 18:02

I just recently found out that you can make your own splashes to watch when Gimp is loading if you are tired of the default, or want to see your own art work. You can even use a .gif if you want some animation in it.

Makes a folder named: Splashes. This should be placed in your user Gimp directory (C:\Users\your name\.gimp-2.8\Splashes ).

Put your desired images in the Splashes folder. Randomly, you will have a different splash each time GIMP loads.

I had a problem with the default system GIMP splash being intermittently used. Wallace instructed me to add a letter to the end of the splash name so it would not be seen as a splash. Go to: (C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\images). The following is what was in the system folder. I added a z to the beginning and end of the gimp splash image name and now all the images used are from my user gimp splashes folder.

The web site below is from GIMP.org and will give you all the information you need regarding size, etc.
Also has some of the former official gimp splashes.

Hopefully, this will entice you to make some of your own splashes and share them here.

I like your splash, Tin. The cool shades of blue are calming. If I had known how easy it was, I would have made splashes long ago!

Thanks.
That's exactly how i felt after reading your instructions! Before this i thought you had to mess with GIMP's configuration or something crazier. Didn't think it twas built ready to go like that. It's great.

Those living in the US or Canada will celebrate Thanksgiving Day next month. So, I made a Splash for it. This one has some simple animation in it.
