Custom brushes (SOLVED)

Can anyone please point me to a 'definitive' brush creation tutorial for dummies. In my case this isn't false modesty, I've had no education and at just shy of sixty I find that all the tutorials I've tried to follow always make the assumption of some degree of prior knowledge. I've made brushes more by accident than design, I really want to learn this Art of Gimp. Thank you.

Hopefully, someone can give you more pointers than I can.
All I know is you create an image, and "Export As..." then export it as a .gbr (gimp brush file).
I export it to [username]/.gimp-2.8/brushes/ folder.
Giving it a name when prompted.
Then I restart GIMP, and the brush is loaded and you can select it to use as brush.

But if you don't want to export the brush for later use, like you just want to use it once. You can also select the very first Brush (Clipboard), then anything you copy (by Selecting and then Ctrl-C on Windows) Whatever the clipboard has in memory will be used as brush. So for example if you Copy a portion of an image that has a happy face, you can instantly use this as temporary brush if you Select the very first brush (Clipboard).

a quick look at the 3 types of brush .vbr .gbr .gih Certainly not definitive. I try and keep thing short, so about 8 minutes.
Of course I forgot the obvious. Any nice little colourful image exported to your brush folder as something.gbr works.
