Emma Watson Manual Threshold

I sorta followed this http://gimp-science-labs.blogspot.ca/20 ... ation.html
The main idea is using threshold on masks.

I think I like your Obama Post. Script better, but this did work nicely.

It's pretty much the same thing. But this manual method lets you tweak further.

This one i blurred the masks before doing threshold so the the areas are more ... cartoony and not pixelized.

Nice one Tim !

I have actually spent years of trying to figure a way how to do this.
All the tutorials i could find on the web/youtube do not get it right.
Even the live trace or Cutout filter in Illustrator has no magical power.

Theres also hardly any information how Shepard Fairey does it, except for one little snippet in a video, i think.
He talks about how he cuts his stencils from something called rubylith. So apparently he does it by hand.

The technique with the thresholded layermasks isnt perfect. You need a good image for it to work.
Another trick is to trace the thresholded image in Inkscape. The trace smoothes it further.
Also using a really small image for the trace can do wonders.
