Steve,
A lot depending on the pivot point with the join.
for most choices in the top left quadrant ( on the outers) when in normal (not reversed) the Final Flip usually fixes.
Copy the outcome layer below the outcome, rotate it 90 and it may be very quick to erase on the top outcome layer
some small leftovers. Then New From Visible.

If reversed, copy and move below the outcome and rotate 90, erase from top outcome, new from visible on top,
delete the other two outcome layers. Copy the new from visible to bottom, rotate it 90 again and erase.

I plan to make a tutorial, with examples.
Please post one for example for me, as png with transparency and no background!
Thank you!

Thanks for the explanation animicule

I hope this image is ok, when pasted on a 1000 pixel square background and with 60 slices the join appears seamless

Nice one RJKD!
Steve, I suppose I didn't say what I meant...
I suppose that I would need a copy of the subject that you were having troubles with to look at it.
Here is an example of a subject in .xcf format

To start, don't reverse and turn final flip off...

For rotation points
Try 327,383 on this one just for a start.
Then 353, 55
That should give an idea...
Maybe pick a random coordinate pair from each of the 4 quadrants as a set of tests.

Easy way is to first open the XCF file in Gimp, the
hold CONTROL key down and tap D a few times, makes copies of the image file

You can leave the subject members in the xcf file, just turn visability off and they won't
be merged when the outcome is produced. When you receive your outcome, the other layers will still be there
(and if your subject layer was at the bottom when you ran the script, the member layers will be above it so you can toggle them on/off
for a quick look
