Python Fu not available in GIMP

I installed GIMP flatpak for Ubuntu and that seemed to be okay.
But my gimp - n & used to run GIMP 2.8
Then I upgraded my Ubuntu
and now when I run gimp -n &, it opened upgraded GIMP 2.10.6 which is alright too I guess but problem is no Python Console or Python-Fu scripts were available.
So I searched around and found this topic/bug report https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=907539
So I ran sudo apt-get gimp-python
and now Python Console and Python-Fu scripts are available for 2.10.6 when I run gimp -n & Which is what I want.
Only thing that bothers me is why Ubuntu Upgrade didn't install gimp-python automatically like previous versions of GIMP (why I had to manually installl gimp-python).

I am on Linux, but I remember some people using the MacOS complaining why they don't see Python-Fu menu before this could be related to why MacOS users can't access .py scripts and I didn't know how to help them because I assumed if they have GIMP installed then gimp-python automatically installed (which doesn't seem to be the case anymore).

It is the way linux package management works. A package will have certain dependencies. Packages that are essential and others that are 'recommended' or 'suggested'. Caught someone out on g-f.net a week or so ago. Debian slipped up in the packaging or possibly, since python 3 is standard in Ubuntu 18.10 and Gimp uses 2.7, decided to leave it up to the user.

If you dump the awful ubuntu so-called package installer and install synaptic you can easily view the dependencies

Gimp example https://i.imgur.com/SIcO95L.jpg How to avoid separate installs?

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --install-suggests install gimp
which adds in the suggested packages and their suggested dependencies.

Not that long ago (Gimp 2.6) when python was in totally separate packages and had to be installed before Gimp (at least for windows)

Why using Gimp -n ? normally used for running more than one Gimp.

Python is certainly there in the gimp.org Gimp 2.10.6 I did this video https://youtu.be/CHHqlHdmQ0o on how easy for a complete OSX novice to install scripts and plugins. From memory installing Gimp was just downloading and clicking the .dmg image file then making python plugins executable (seems a common issue) was a lot easier that I had assumed.

Hate these click-n-wish operating systems ;) that will be my first and last Mac adventure.
