How to combine two layers and add their percentages up.

This is a hack to answer try and answer this question: https://www.reddit.com/r/GIMP/comments/ ... nsparency/

1. Invert your "Layer", merge down onto a pure black layer to create a result layer call it "result 1" layer.
2. Invert your "Layer #1", merge down onto a pure black layer to create a result layer call it "result 2" layer.
3. Set "result 2" mode to "Addition".
4. New from visible to create "visible" layer.
5. Invert "visible" layer. Set "visible" mode to "Multiply".
6. Hide "result 1" and "result 2" and you're left with what you want.

here's what my result looks like after performing the above steps.
