How to make an hypnotizing wave animation

How to make an “hypnotizing” wave animation.

Make a new file 500x500 pixels.

Go to filters > render > clouds > plasma 2.
Click new seed until you are satisfied with the plasma.
(I took a plasma with much yellow in it.)

Make a new layer and fill it with a yellow or orange color.
Put the blend mode on overlay.

Make the blend tool active and use the golden blend > apply.
Change the blend mode to lighten only.
Reduce the opacity to about 60.

With the golden blend layer active choose new from visible in the layers window.
edit > copy
edit > paste as > new image

Go to filters > animation > waves
Only change the number of frames to 10.
Leave the rest as default.

Make the crop tool active and crop out the animation so the vortex isn't in the middle any more.

Go to filters > decor > ad border and choose a color that matches the animation.

Put the border layer at the bottom of the layer stack.

Go to filter > animation > combine background.
And delete the very bottom border layer.

Export as gif file > animation > loop forever.

For those who don't have plasma2, I include the plug in.

Have fun! And don't disappear in the vortex :)

Ella

Edit:

In the second outcome I also checked the box invert direction

Thanks for the tutorial Ella  , I got a result but think I went astray, possibly with the layer modes or opacity setting which may account for the quality which seems a little on the poor side. Like a lot of tutorials this one is addictive :)

A disadvantage of a gif animation is, the coloring isn't always very good in the outcome.
Don't know why but sometimes it's better than others.
Maybe it depends on the colors that one uses.

Still a very nice result
And indeed Gimp is addictive.

Thanks for doing the tutorial :)

Ella, Thank you so much for a nice tutorial that gives very pleasing outcomes. I enjoyed doing this very much.

I found that if you intended to but forgot to check the "Invert Direction" box, Just go to layer/Stack/reverse layer order after you have combined the background and it will have the same effect.

Pat, that's a very good hint. Your animation turned out very well.

OMG, it is a peaceful outcome especially when you invert the direction.
It creates space in stead of being afraid to disappear :)

Thank you, Tin. Hope I can make a few more tutorials in the future.
