I keep getting phone calls

that are recorded machine saying we'll be arrested if we don't call back.
I always check the number online now people report saying it's scammer's numbers pretending to be the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency).
I even saw a program on W5 on TV that described these scammer companies are popping up like crazy in India.
Like within hours they can set up a call center in India that is able to call internationally and appear like they're from your country.
So always check the number before you bother call back.
I get so many saying i'll be arrested (even though they never mention any name) they just call to try to get you to call them back and that's when the scam starts by threatening you to pay or you'll be arrested.
The lady on the W5 program got scammed like over $25,000 buying Itunes cards for them so they can resell. At the time she was so afraid of being arrested that she did whatever they told her to do...
That's all i wanted to share.

In the Uk we get calls saying it's your bank and they've noticed some suspicious behavior regarding your account "please call your bank"...however they've rigged the line so even when you hang up your still connected to the previous call, so when you dial any other number your straight back to the call originator who now pretends to be your bank, goes through data protection, thereby getting all your information and they go on to commit other frauds.
We have a monopoly industry in BT in the UK, you would have thought they could get a step ahead of this nonsense, it's always older folk who take the hit - horrible people.

In the US, the same problem exists. I get calls from every state in the country and one from Sri Lanka. They range from being told I have won the Nigerian lottery to Microsoft monitoring to being arrested for something unless I pay now.

A year ago or so, neighbor of my mothers received a call.
Her Grandson was in jail and needed ITunes cards or Gift cards from WalMart to get him out.
As luck would have it, he was visiting so the scammers didn't score.
Just a few weeks ago she received another call and now her Granddaughter is in jail needing bail.
She didn't 'buy' the story.

Not too long ago, I received a call from my own phone number. I had to look twice, but didn't answer.

Ditto here in Australia - scam calls from everywhere. Always been land lines previously but now on mobil;e phones too.

The so called Microsoft calls re error messages, I tend to string them along and then once they confirm its definitely a Windows error message I say interesting is it not as I run a Linux system!!

The ones where they want you to type a URL into your computer I pretend to type and keep telling them nothing happened!

Wow people, I didn't know it was that common apparently we all have been worked on(tried) by these scammers good thing no one falls for these....
Poor people that fall for them though...
Oh how i wish there was a way to spam them back to make their lines busy so they can't reach other people to scam them.
But I looked online and people suggest the best thing is just to ignore them if you spam them back you end up being a spammer and probably not get the real people but end up clogging a third party(innocent).
So all we can do is ignore them.

I guess we could take comfort in the fact that if they reach our number, and we ignore them then that's one waste of time on their part better than them hitting someone else who doesn't know about the scam.
