Layer Group Problem (Solved)

Post#1 by Pat625 » 31 Jul 2017, 23:49

I notice this last month that sometimes it seems like a group layer function is turned on automatically. Occurs most oftem when using the layer effects tools. It puts all the different things you are doing into layer groups and it is difficult to find the original layer that effects are being placed on. Does anyone know how to turn this off? I don't know what caused it. Very annoying. I'm making mistakes because I am on the wrong layer.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Layer FX 2.8 creates groups.
I think you are following Conbagui's older tutorials.
Look at the layer names in the group.
The subject layer is still there and intact.
The effects layers have their names added to the subject layer.
Just move the subject layer out of the group and merge the group down.
Check your mode and opacity before you merge it down,
then check that it has remained the same after.

Or you could try using the older script-fu version.

Pat, you aren't losing your mind...
Certain of the effects do not create groups, but
others do. I can't remember which without my notes.

Brian, thank you for the information. The layerfx2.8 was the problem. I had only used layerfx.py as so many have had problems with it conflicting with other plugins. I did install it to use the Weld script you wrote and forgot to remove it. I removed it and now all is well! Thanks again! It was driving me crazy. I'll just swap it in when I need it.

I will put changing the layerfx version on the weld script on my list ...
I hadn't noticed any conflicts as of yet.
Are no groups created with the layerfx.py in any of the effects that you know of?
Thanks Pat!

Mostly what people are instructed to use is the layerfx.py as not conflict with other plugins. I did not have that problem myself but some have had problems getting scripts to work and when layerfx2.8 is removed the problem goes away. You could ask Wallace as he knows more about it than I do.

Pat,
I was able to easily hack the layerfx2.8 so that it doesn't create layer groups, yet still works
as it should. (it is the longest script I've ever looked at).
If you happen to find which scripts that layerfx2.8 has interferences with please let me know
and possibly the interferences could be fixed.
(I know you weren't getting interferences, neither have I).
Thank you,
Brian
