@dinasset,
Thanks for the information.

Now for my complicated attempt!

I wished to experiment with luminosity masks and on an image with very little contrast, like this picture of the yacht.

I duplicated the image and desaturated it. Then I increased contrast and adjusted brightness until the image extended from black to white.
I used the Saul Goode Luminosity Mask script.
Mask DDD was the sea.
LLL was only the boat and its reflection - I painted over the reflection with black.
MMM I did "channel to selection", then sea (DDD) - "subtract from selection", boat (LLL) - "subtract from selection". I saved the resultant selection to a channel which I named sky.

I was then able to adjust each region separately. Finally I selected the dinghy and increased the saturation to emphasise the orange colour, and lastly selected all except the sky (to avoid noise) and sharpened.

A very complicated procedure, but, hopefully, I learnt something in the process!

David, How much time does it take to do all those procedures on the image? When selecting just the boat or just the sky, how do you deal with all the fine lines from the poles extending upwards from the boat?

Pat625,

Because I start with the Saul Goode Luminosity Masks, the modification to those take very little time.
On the sky mask the rigging wires appear as black, so as required for the mask. On the boat mask they hardly are visible, but because, again they are very dark, the adjustments I am making have no significant effect.

Just for this experiment I was proving to myself that by using a copy of the picture and increasing the contrast I could easily produce effective masks.
Previously, on low-contrast images, I have used hand-drawn masks which is very time consuming.

I had this thread rather forgotten for lacking of new photos. Now that I went to a very nice Andalucía city for some days, I have some photos to share with you all. Please, play on them as you like. I love seeing your creativity and transformations. :D

Yellow Balloon: I removed mobile phone masts and modern-looking street lamps (you can't tell now!), cropped away the less interesting buildings. Isolated the balloon on its own layer, colour boost and contrast increase. Background reduced contrast and saturation, duplicated. Lower layer blurred. Upper layer added layer mask with gradient.

Castle Garden: Apart from removing a few minor distractions, I made it a moonlight view!

Statue: I removed the distractions - pole, man behind statue and cropped away the European Union sign.
Separated the statue on its own layer and adjusted contrast and brightness, using Curves. New layer, filled with gold in overlay mode - duplicated. Statue and overlay layers flattened. New layer above background, filled with pale blue in overlay mode. Image flattened and sharpened.

(It is a pity about the very small maximum allowable file size on the site.)

 Great transformations!
Tim, your frame added makes it very smart! :D
David, your transformations are really innovative. I find them very nice, most the "Flamenco Singer" in gold
Thank you so much to you both. :gimp_clap:
These other photos are the centennial Ficus trees I found so impressive. :)
