Re: My photo album

Post#22 by david » 22 Jan 2017, 19:16

My attempts at my own photographs.
The blackbird: I painted a layer mask so that I could subdue the background and emphasize the bird.
The folly: I removed the distracting cables and pylons. I gave it a colour boost and then using the blue channel did a select by colour on the sky. I saved the selection to a channel. Minor retouching on the channel and then used it as a layer mask for the sky, which I boosted in the blue and green channels.
I used wavelet decompose to sharpen the picture (duplication of layers one and two). A risk of noise becoming apparent in the sky with this much sharpening, but it really emphasized the detail in the trees.

Dinasset, Issabella, very nice attempts!
David, I can't believe the difference you made from the original photos. Especially the sky. The pictures are so clean and crisp!

The photos are already very nice. I did make some changes but not certain if anything improved.

My tries!
Leaves: subdued the background on one layer, increased saturation, contrast and sharpened the leaves on the other layer.
Trees: just a colour boost, slight increase in contrast and sharpened.

David, I really like what you did with the leaves. What is your method of separating the background so you can work on it only?

Pat625,
I reduced the brightness, contrast and saturation of my bottom layer, then added a black-filled layer mask to the top layer. I then painted on the mask with white to reveal the top layer. I should have used a white filled layer and painted in black. The results would have been the same, but it would have been much easier on the eyes!
