OMG Carved Ribs Animation Tutorial

Post#1 by oldmangrumpy » 16 Sep 2017, 22:39

This tutorial was requested - it should recreate an animation similar to that posted in my thread previously and reproduced below FYI.

As usual, it s a stepped based approach and I do try to proof read the document, but if any problems are encountered please let me know immediately.

The ZIP contains a starter xcf file for 'path fearing' Gimpers, plus a gradient and golf ball PNG file required to complete the animation.

EDIT - my sincere apologies; a new ZIP file loaded below as I had made some errors in putting the tutorial together

Thank you so much OMG, I can't wait to try it. I'm one who fears paths but I always try to do them following your instructions. So far so good, I've been able to follow the steps to make the paths, except for the glass vase  . Not sure why that one eludes me but I will crack it one day!! Thank you again for the work and time you put into making these step by steps tutorials!!

I'm making a little progress, but if you have any pointers or suggestions on what i'm doing wrong I would appreciate it!! My first trouble is the resizing the layer back down after Mura Meister has been completed. It says to make original white background layer active, then use the Fuzzy Select tool to click anywhere on the white colour to select it. But in step 4 it says to use the blend on the white layer, so I no have a white background layer. I'm also having a bit of trouble when I go to move the golf ball the whole layer moves? Thank you for all your work and help!!

Nancy - my sincere apologies to you and anybody else who has alrady downloaded the original tutorial - yes I had made a mistake with the white background layer; it should have been duplicated right upfront. I think the golf ball png file was the wrong one too

I have reloaded the ZIP file with corrections made so you will need to download it once again.

When loaded into the the canvas the golf ball is on a layer just by itself, so when you move it around the edge of the carving to then create a new from visible layer, ys the whole layer moves but it does not cause any problems.

Maybe I am getting too old and losing my ability to be accurate first time :? Back to gardening maybe?

My apologies again.

No problems at all OMG, keep'em coming lol, the golf ball one was on me I was putting it on the layer I was working on instead of a layer of it's own  . But I have completed it, i'm not sure if I did everything correctly but I was just happy to see it spin and work  !! Your tutorials are wonderful, as is your gorgeous garden. Keep up the amazing work my friend!!

Thank you OMG!
I must have had the original, but it worked out fine. I only had 2 layers swapped at the end.
I did a different thing, made as Combined to see how much less final file size was.
Started working on script to aid with combined type outcome.
