Split-toning in GIMP Script

Post#1 by trandoductin » 29 Sep 2016, 03:20

I followed this tutorial found here -> Split-toning in GIMP (If link is broken/not_found you could always try the wayback-machine version)
And I thought that's cool, i'll make a script for it so here it is:
split_tone.zip #
zipped .py file (unzip and put in your GIMP's plug-ins folder)
(1.57 KiB) Downloaded 611 times
Instructions:
1. Open image that you'd like to split tone.
2. Run Script (Python-Fu/Split tone...). Optionally choose split-tone colors. Click "OK" to run script.
3. Script will create 2 layers with masks on top of your original.
4. Optionally desaturate your original (layer on the very bottom).
5. That's it.

The menu location:

Script's options are Dark tone color and Light tone color (change them as you please, I have defaulted them to match colors described in above tutorial link)

This is result after running script, You get 2 extra created masked layers, change/reduce opacity of the "light tone" layer as you like (like the tutorial described, it's different for different images).

I have to say I like the split-tone image of grasshopper more..but maybe because i have a thing for split-tone images (I might be biased).
Did you follow the tutorial or use the script or both?

Hello, I tried to check the tutorial, but the link given above is resulting in http error404.

Pat625, this grasshopper knows what healthy food is! Nice picture.

I think the process seems simple, but in addition to being repetitive, it takes many tries to find the ideal tones to use. In this aspect, this script makes it much easier on this task. Thank you Tim.
