The cursors used for tools is determined by the theme being used.
I don't know how to edit theme file, so this is the best answer I can offer.

Try switching from different themes, until you come across one that works well for you.
Someone else my have a more satisfactory answer to your question, which may involve learning how to edit theme files.

Even so, you would need to create the cursor(s) you might want, as a reference image used by the theme file.

Thanks Wallace, I've got a couple of other themes Nocturne blue and Rod's Metallic blue, neither change the actual cursor color (and I personally find them to dark to see properly, hence my thoughts on a different cursor color, guess a trip to the optician is in order).

Or on Windows
go to Control Panel
then search for "change mouse settings"
then under "Pointer Options" tab,
click "Display pointer trails"
that way every it draws tracers following your mouse cursor no matter what the point's image is ...and it's easier to see where your mouse is
or you can click on "Show location of pointer when i press CTRL key" too
and whenever you have problem locating your mouse just hit CTRL key and let go and it'll show a large circle zooming in to where your cursor is.
