:download:
zoomtexture.zip #
zipped .py file (unzip, put in your GIMP's plug-ins folder)
(1.69 KiB) Downloaded 15 times
Script Menu Location: Python-Fu/Zoom Texture

Instructions:
1. Have your image as a single active layer.
2. Run Script (Python-Fu/Zoom Texture).
3. Choose 5 colors from darkest to brightest.
4. Click OK to run script.
5. Script will create a new image with 5 layers. Top 4 layers are set to invisible.
6. Starting at the top layer, turn on visibility, select the layer mask and play with colors/threshold to reveal darkest color.
7. Repeat step 6 for the other 3 layers below top layer.
8. That's it.

Sample result.

Thank you Tin for this script, I was not getting the best results working with threshold on my own. I usually struggle with scripts but this one is easy enough even I can get it :thank_you: . Just did a quick before I had to run out, without even having to play around with it yet and it's 100 times better than I was getting!! Now i'm ready to play more :pompom:

If you like the effect you're getting then that's the intended effect. There's lots of room to play with threshold when there are 4 layers the combination is great. As long as you like your outcome then it's all good.

Try a different image. I find that some images are just not good and no matter what you choose thresholds they all show up all at once. The really good ones are the ones that as you increase/decrease threshold more details appear slowly .

Thank you Issabella, I agree with Tin, I tried like 5 or 6 different photo's that just didn't show well before I found the horse that I posted.
