Sometimes, when colours (distorted) are disturbing, it could be a better solution to go to Black and White.

I thought I would give this a try, I used the Nik plugins and G'mic Ians Noise Reduction

I tried to find a quick way of improving the picture - better or worse I am not sure!!!

Duplicated the image. Desaturated the top layer. Applied anisotropic smoothing (default settings) to "disguise" the noise. I used the wavelet decompose plug-in and duplicated layer 2, triplicated layer 1. It has introduced some artifacts, but increased the impression of sharpness.
I then moved the original (bottom layer) to the top and put it in overlay mode. Finally used Colours & Curves to adjust brightness and contrast.

Below the before and after. Comments and criticism most welcome!

I believe it is greatly improved! You were able to keep Detail and improved clarity.
