Quick tip I learned in gimp (About Layer Alpha Channel)

Post#1 by Mapsking » 21 Jan 2019, 10:58

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place. I could have sworn I saw a beginner's section, but now, can't find it. Anyways, I just learned you can quickly see if a layer has an alpha channel by looking at the layers dialog. If the text of the layer is in BOLD, then the layer does NOT have an alpha channel. If it is NOT bold, then it DOES have an alpha channel. I was excited to learn I didn't have to manually look to see if there was one, or go to add one, and find out there was already one. Anyways, hope this helps someone. :thats_awesome:

SHORT VERSION: Mapsking, thanks for sharing this tip! LONG SENTENCE VERSION: The meanings and effects of stray click actions and unexpected lights go a long way toward helping new users like myself learn a bit more on finding our way through GIMP's virtual forest interface.

@Mapsking and @neurolurker here's a link to a thread RJKD (Richard) started.
There you can find some more useful tips.

@tim maybe you can put this thread at a place it is more easy to find.

Ella, I just create a subforum called GIMP Tips under MAIN FORUM/GIMP LEARN.
This way it's easier to find (so I hope) I also moved this topic and Absolutely Beginners tips topic under this subforum as well.
