Hi GJL:
Strange!
I tried to replicate the issue but was unable to do so. See below:
This sort of result usually happens when there is not enough transparent space around the character for the shine function to work with. Perhaps with an existing alpha selection this would happen - although the filter should cope with this (something to check).
You didn't mention which version of the shine filter you used - this would help me to try again to reproduce the issue.

GJL:
Yes the character you uploaded produces the same result as you described.
When I copy and fill with the same colour to a new image however I cannot reproduce the same result.
I thought perhaps a colour precision setting was the problem but I cannot see one in your uploaded image.
I am at a loss - will have to think and research this one.

Hi all,
I did not find the details of this situation, but using the image provided by GJL in post # 23, applying Sheen N'Shine V 0.04 directly to the font, or after using Face Maker V0.06 I was unable to reproduce the problem shown in post # 21. Using defaults.

Hi gimpturkey, I think you confused the topics due to the similarity in their titles.

A potential solution...
Trim the character by one pixel (layer utils filter) before applying the shine filter.
