I tried a few more times.
I think no one may get this result if the tutorial is applied as it shows.
Unless something is wrong with Map Object on my system.

Did you resize the band layer to image size before mapping?
I didn't make Gimper's wedding ring tutorial yet. I'll have a look at the printscreens.

Brian, to get a ring shape you have to do Map to cylinder instead of Map to sphere.
Sorry Brian, my mistake
It do has to be a sphere but you first have to resize the band layer to image size.
That's what Gimper forgot to mention.

Made the tutorial, Brian. And you can make it also if you resize the band layer to image size before mapping
(to a sphere )

With your help Ella, I did make it. The resize the band layer to image size before Map Object : to Sphere
was the missing step. Thank you! :computer_smiley:

I have modified the tutorial to resize the band layer to image size.
sometimes a detail is forgotten because we automatically do layer to image size.
I see beautiful rings here,gimper

I seem to be having a problem with the Bump Map of the text onto the gradient.
I have tried reading about Bump Map in the Gimp Docs but no matter what I do, I don't wind up with a bumped text on the gradient layer. When I eye out the text layer, it is just the gradient layer. I don't recall ever using Bump Map so please be gentle.
I am using Gimp 2.10.6
