Path Copy Rotate Shift Walk for Gimp 2.10

This filter builds upon the script written by Brian Hahn in 2011: Download it and install it to your Gimp plug-ins folder. It can be found in the Filters menu.

It works by making copies of one user path (moving and rotating these to user values) and shifting these copies along another user path in different ways. The filter provides a number of options for colouring the path strokes.

You will need to create, or have, two paths – one of which must be named ‘walk’ (no speech marks required) – in your image. The filter will use the topmost path in the path stack as the ‘copy’ path and manipulate it along the ‘walk’ path.

There is plenty of scope for experimentation and I have included a range of modifier options to add subtle (or not) variations to the results using a range of multipliers.

If you prefer to use the paths without my colour options you can opt to keep them – either in their entirety or as merged groups – and copy and paste these into a new image to use as you wish.

The filter dialog (colour coded) default options:

Red highlight options:
Adjust these main offsets to move the centre of a path before before copying takes place.

Yellow highlight options:
Adjust these multipliers to add variation to the basic effect; apply these with the options below.

Orange highlight options:
A set of options for applying the multipliers to the copy path in different ways.

Some example images:

The paths used in the examples:

Output from the two paths using full revolutions, no multipliers and 10 as the angle of rotation:

Output as above but also using an X offset of 2:

Output using a Y offset of 2 with a rotation of 10:

By now you should get the idea of playing about so back to the first output with ripple multipliers (or modifiers) applied to rotation:

The ripple multipliers applied to both the x and Y offsets (split screen with the original on the left):

Large Zigzag with a rotation of 15 degrees on the right (despite what the legend says):

And finally a playabout - increasing the size of the copy path to overlap repeats and a change of colours to fade in and out of the background:

Have fun!

I did two paths and I get this message, Please, could you give me a bit of help? Thanks a lot.

Just rename one of your paths as walk and try again...
