I really like your image, RJKD. Did you check the tutorials index on GimpChat? Look for Draconian. He did a series of tutorials on metal.
I looked at all your wood patterns. They are really nice. Did you start with photos of real wood? I was not able to view patterns 3-7. They will not display. I just get an empty box for each picture.

Glad you are feeling better!

Apologies re; patterns, I always seem to have a screw loose or a bit missing, meanwhile diligently working my way through Drac's tuts, I love the older tuts as they actually give the why as well as the what to do, therefore I learn techniques that can have a broader application (OMG's are great for that) My fav video tuts are Un4given and LittleWebHut.

This was a bit of a concoction. I started with Bevel and Emboss but did not like results. Added some Chisel & Carve, embossed afterward.

This was done with Chisel & Carve, Alpha Shine, text, framing. I had spent time with my grandchildren and was still in Grandma mode!!

Great outcome Pat, I really like the way the medallion is hanging on a golden thread and the background pattern is awesome.

Thank you very much, RJKD. This was as instructed in the tutorial. OMG's tutorials are really wonderful. He gives you the patterns that you need to complete the tut. If you have not tried them, I highly recommend that you do. I always learn more things about Gimp when I do one.

Script from Graechan. It has two parts: Logo and Alpha Shine

This was done primarily with Alpha Shine. Frame was Chisel and Carve.

Please check out the links above. There are so many nice things you can do with the script and not just wood. You can do most any texture.

This was done primarily with Chisel and Carve. I added a photo of a waterfall behind a bridge and put a design over that with carved edges.
Decoration on the wood also has carved edges.

There are several ways to make items appeared carved. Filters for bevel, Chisel & Carve are often used. For this one I used a script called Image Shine. There are two parts, one for logos and the other for selections. You do have to have a script called Beautify loaded with its files in order to use Image Shine.
