I think it doesn't look good because the map is too large.
It looks better when you zoom in at 100%.
Another thing I do to make it look less boring is to add an solid noise overlay layer.
Here's what i generated.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the help! I'll try lower the overall size to something smaller. I was wondering, the mountains on the maps on the page previous have a lot nice looking mountains. Is there something I'm doing wrong in the generation of the mountains? Should they be smaller in size, or more narrow, or basically any tips on making them not look like weirdo white and brown marks randomly risen above the land. On my next issue, what's with the dirt being so..... patchy I guess? I'll try another render with smaller section selected or with an overall smaller resolution.

Hey Tim,

Didn't rerender yet but man, that thing was huge! I have no idea why or what I was thinking when I made it 16k by 8k. What an idiot. I'll let you know how to turns out.
