I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but everything I do to the copy layer (rotate, change opacity, etc.), also happens to the original layer. I've tried selecting just the copy layer, but it doesn't seem to help.

Also, is there a way to select the colors, number of stripes, and width of stripes that are used?

Hi enxio27, and welcome to Gimp Learn.

Maybe you accidentally activated these chain links in the layers window.
Then all operations are done on both layers. Although I doubt it at the opacity, when rotating it's the case.

Is there any way to control the width of the stripes? When I repeat the pattern on a 3600x3600 pixel image, the pattern becomes too small. I've tried enlarging the pattern before applying it, but then there's a clear border around it after the enlargement, and that border shows up when applying the pattern.
