Ella, did you make the plaid background yourself, or was it something you already had? I want to learn to make plaid backgrounds like that.
@enxio27 yes I made the plaid background myself.
Took 3 colors I used in the Easter Bunny work on a white background.

Here's a link to the tutorial I started with.

https://www.deviantart.com/el-l-en/art/ ... -185262949

After that I rotated the plaid with 45° and made a square cut.
I also made it seamless and saved it as pattern.

Another outcome with a self made plaid pattern.

Happy Easter to all.

How do I get it to use ONLY the colors I select, instead of adding other colors to it?

I tried changing the search depth from 50 to 4, 1, and even 0, but it seemed to have no effect whatsoever. I'm wondering whether the smooth palette function is broken.

When you use the Smooth Palette Function.
This will create a new image.
The newly created image, could be hiding behind your Gimp windows,
on a as a separate image/canvas.
Be sure you check, that there isn't anything hiding behind any of Gimps open interface dialog's.

I'm sorry--I definitely wasn't very clear. I see the new image, but it contains colors that were not in the original image. I want ONLY the colors from the original image. According to the documentation, the "search depth" setting is supposed to control that, but that setting has zero effect that I can see.

@enxio27 with the technical problems I can't help you, sorry.
I just made a tutorial on how I made my own pattern.
I made it in Gimp 2.8 because I wanted to make it seamless. In Gimp 2.10 I can't find a way to do this.
Maybe someone with a bigger knowledge about Gimp can find a way how to do this.

Here's a link to the tutorial.

Good luck 🍀

The results using the Smooth Palette Function, within Gimp version 2.10.
Don't appear to give, the same expected results as does Gimp version 2.8 form the colors used.
The image below is the result, which look nothing like the purple image I created.

I experimented with Image Mode in Gimp version 2.10, by changing the image mode to Gray Scale.
After the Smooth Palette Function had been run.

Then changing it back to Image Mode RGB.
Then using Color > Colorize, to get the color I wanted.

@Wallace I’d never tried it in Gimp 2.10. But it’s obvious the effect isn’t the same. Maybe you found the reason why enxio27 couldn’t become the desired result.

I believe Gimp 2.10 is working at a different bit rate then version 2.8, but I might be mistaken.
However, if the starting image is changed to Gray Scale and then back to RGB.
The out come will be in different gray colors. Then just use Colorize, to get the desired color for your plaid pattern.

That was EXACTLY the problem! Apparently the smooth-palette plugin for 2.8 must be used for this, because the 2.10 version won't work the same way.
