Update to Custom Font Face Maker for Gimp 2.10 to V0.10

This update adds a preview to new image option (and general improvements) to improve custom font making workflow.

Download and install to your user plug-ins folder.

Menu path:

Filters>>Custom Font Tools>>Custom Font Face Maker v0.10...

The dialog has two new options:

The preview option works when adding decor faces to custom font character files and also when combining existing characters with those from another file.

The filter will use the first character in the file for the new preview image, but if character groups are used (and the appropriate decor layers have been added and correctly named) the preview image will contain a character from each group.

The example below shows my layer stack with appropriate decor layers for groups by case added:

The facility to use different decor layers to apply different character faces in the same file has been available for a long time but was not immediately apparent. This version provides an option to apply the different faces. Obviously the user needs to add different image layers and name them correctly for this to work.

By default, the plug-in uses the top-most decor layer for all characters not assigned to any group.

The group names (always lower-case):

Vowel Group Names:
vowel consonant
Shape Group Names:
straight curved mixed
Case Group Names:
upper lower number punctuation

You can also add a decor layer named 'other' as catch-all name to use for any characters not in a group; perhaps you only want to use upper and lower case decor layers. Place this above the other decor layers.

I was completely unaware of this plugin's ability.

I tested it now in my version of Custom Font Face Maker V0.08 (I only tested it once, with the options 'other, low and upper') and I was surprised to see that the decoration by groups worked perfectly on it.

Without having read this topic I would never know about this feature; because there would be no way to guess the names allowed by groups.
