Drowned Drone

Post#1 by PhotoMaster » 23 Jul 2018, 03:03

Went to visit some friends at their campground, the other day, and stopped off at the future in-laws camp site. We hung out for a few hours, they're really great people, and talked about many things. What is normal for the guys is talking about our drones and such. I brought mine with me because we wanted to fly. We drove out to a clearing by a lake, I pulled out my phone to make sure it was legal to fly there. Everything checked out and we set up to fly. I was barely air born when the drone started fighting with the wind. The phone app showed no real wind but once it was up there, it found the wind. Or should I say the wind find me! After fighting the wind for a few minutes and getting nowhere, I decided my best bet was to hit the return to home switch. After all I had 11 satellites so it should know where it is. Right?? Much to my dismay, it tilted 90° and took a nosedive into the drink. It splashed around on the surface of the water for about 5 minutes before giving up and sinking, never to be found again. I was devastated but had to remain calm.

Had to debate several days with the Mrs, but I did get to order my new drone. It's a slightly larger model and it is a really good drone. Had it up for a little, since getting it, but I find myself being much more cautious with this one. It's stronger and heavier than the first one so it should definitely handle the wind better (and take better pictures). Just feeling a little nervous about losing this one.

Sorry to hear about your drowned drone. But at least you got another one.

It sucks losing a drone. I've lost 3 so far. It's part of the learning curve though. Good luck with this one, PhotoMaster!

Nice photos.

I was thinking of how I would've gone about getting a photo like that 10 years ago. :giggle_purple:

You might have to borrow Magic Monkey's stick.

Thanks Muchly!

Not getting out as much as I had planned, due to breathing issues, but when the docs figure this out I plan on getting some great shots.
