Better or worse

Post#1 by tim » 02 Jan 2020, 04:42

Just watched a youtube video on composition and learned about rule of thirds and golden spiral/ratio.
I thought I'd play with public domain images. and see if these rules make the image look more pleasing....
So thoughts? which one do you like better.?

With the first two, I liked the original better. with "buildings" I liked crop and contrast better. Golden Gate, The original is prettier to the eye because of the color, and the cropping or zooming in gives more detail of the bridge. I would have preferred to keep color and crop, zoom on the bridge. What were your choices, Tin?

My choices were unsure on the butterfly, trees unsure, I guess I would prefer my cropped version but that's because i am biased toward the decisions i made, but the Golden Gate I definitely like the black and white more. and the buildings definitely higher contrast more.

Tim,
From the butterfly photos shown here (1,2 and 3) I liked it most (in that order):
2, 3 and then 1

@tim ,
In the forest image, I liked the original better, although that element in the bottom right should be removed.
